Fiesta Mancos Mancos is a village with a nice Plaza de Armas about 45 km from Huaraz on the main road through the Callejon de Huaylas between Carhuaz and Yungay. A visit is especially worthwhile during the fiesta around august 16 when there are colorful processions and bullfights. |

Most people just drive through Mancos on their way to Yungay or Caraz. But it is interesting to make a stop to see the Plaza de Armas that has a special charm thanks to its palmtrees and its quaint
yet attractive church. During the festival from 12 to 16 august you are likely to see Shacshash dancers shaking their lower legs to which they attach a bundle of nuts or goat feet which make a 'shacshash' resembling sound. |
|
The last two days of the festival on august 15 and 16 is the traditional bullfight. Matadors come from Lima and abroad to show their skills. Unlike at the festival of Chacas the bulls at this festival actually get killed by the matador. The local crowd gets very excited about this event and people that can't afford the entrance can be seen hanging in trees and standing on roofs and walls just to get a glimpse. |
