Trekking Routes
Although high altitude climbing is largely restricted to a few months, treks around Huaraz can be enjoyed the entire year. During the rainy period (nov.-march) at least the mornings are almost always dry and the rain may actually add to the beauty of your trek when clouds suddenly open up to reveal spectacular scenery!
Quebrada Yanapaccha
7 km. Easy between 3,950 and 4,500 meters.
This walk starts from the two lakes at Llanganuco. It affords an excellent view from the north of Huascaran and ends at the beautiful lake 69 at the foot of the imposing Chacraraju Peak. Waterfalls and several varieties of flowers can be seen. The route is marked and takes a full day. Recommended.

Llanganuco - Santa Cruz
65 km. Degree of difficulty:intermediate. This is one of the most beautiful walks in the Cordillera Blanca. Altitude varies between 2,900 and 4,750 meters; it takes four to five days and gives views of all principal mountains. The route is marked and
donkeys can be hired to carry your equipment. There are several lakes on the route, which is very popular. Highly recommended.

Los Cedros Alpamayo
50 km, difficult Altitude between 2,800 and 4,750 meters.
There are some steep slopes on this walk, which starts at Cashapampa to the north east of Caraz. The walk passes archeological sites and is the only route on which the classical conical silhouette of Mount Alpamayo can be seen it takes four to five days and is not well frequented.

Cordillera Huayhuash
180 km. Difficult. Altitude: between 2,600 and 5,000 meters.
This walk is for experienced climbers only and gives spectacular views of the Huayhuash massif and its snow covered peaks. There are many valleys and lakes. The walk is little frequented and pack animals are essential. Duration: 12 days for the complete round trip starting from the village of Chiquian to the south of the
Cordillera Blanca.
